On Wednesday, October 22nd, we had the pleasure of hosting a Croatian Radiotelevision (HRT) crew at Lake Savica, where we filmed a segment about our spin-off company eDNAture, which is currently experiencing a rapid rise in the biotech startup scene.
During the shoot, we demonstrated how just a single drop of water can reveal the full biodiversity of a lake, river, or wetland. This is made possible by our innovative method of environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis.
eDNAture is the result of years of scientific research and innovation and is now in the third round of the Nuqleus accelerator – a prestigious program for deep-tech companies.
And what is deep tech?
These are technologies born from scientific and academic research – like biotechnology, artificial intelligence, or quantum computing – that bring radical innovations to society and industry. In short: science applied to the real world.

What is eDNAture?
eDNAture is a Croatian biotech company that uses environmental DNA metabarcoding to identify all animal species living in water—without needing to capture, see, or disturb them.
When animals inhabit a body of water, they leave behind genetic traces—skin cells, mucus, waste, eggs—which we collect through water sampling and analyze in our lab. Within just a few days, we can detect even the most elusive species, including those that are rare, protected, or nocturnal. These methods enable single-target (eDNA) or multiple-target (metabarcoding) detection of any life forms from bacteria to mammals.

🐟 Key Advantages:
- Nearly 100% detection accuracy
- No need for multiple field visits
- Significant savings of time and resources
- Ideal for monitoring Natura 2000 protected areas and species
Our goal is to make this technology accessible to everyone working to protect nature – from scientists and national parks to schools, fishermen, and citizen organizations.
The feature was filmed by Mr. Janko Debeljak, to whom we extend our sincere thanks for his professionalism, patience, and genuine interest in our work. We would also like to thank Maksimir Public Institution for allowing us to film at Lake Savica. Many thanks again to HRT for the opportunity to tell our story. We hope the feature will inspire others to think about innovations that help protect our natural heritage.
