Laser cutter

We’re excited to announce a major upgrade in our production capabilities!
At BIOTA, we have officially equipped a dedicated manufacturing room in our office for the installation of our new Trotec Q500 120W laser cutter — a key technology for producing our small indoor aquarium aquaponic systems made from high-quality plexiglass.

After a thorough evaluation of vendors and technologies, we selected the Trotec Laser Q500 DC 120W CO₂ system, purchased from our trusted partners at ReproGRav d.o.o. The machine offers a large working area (1300 × 900 mm), precision cutting, water cooling, and advanced software control, making it the perfect industrial tool for producing durable and beautifully crafted components.

Why this matters

This investment marks a significant step in our mission to bring compact, elegant, and affordable aquaponic systems to homes, schools, and offices. With in-house laser-cutting:

  • We ensure precision manufacturing of plexiglass parts

  • We shorten production times and reduce outsourcing

  • We gain full control over quality and design

  • We accelerate the development of our Aquarium Aquaponic line, part of our new generation of indoor growing systems

A Dedicated Production Environment

To support this new technology, we built a special-purpose laser room in our facility, equipped with:

  • Professional ventilation and extraction

  • Safety barriers and fire-resistant surfaces

  • Improved workflow layout for material handling

  • Storage and assembly space for finished parts

This controlled environment allows the Q500 to operate at full performance, ensuring stable quality and safer working conditions.

In Partnership With ReproGRav d.o.o.

We would like to thank ReproGRav d.o.o. for their support in:

  • Equipment delivery

  • Installation

  • Training

  • Technical setup of the entire system

With a two-year warranty on the machine and one-year coverage on key components, we are fully equipped to begin high-volume plexiglass processing.

What’s Next?

With the laser cutter in operation, we are now entering the next stage:

  • Rapid prototyping of plexiglass aquaponic modules

  • Serial production of our Aquarium Aquaponic Systems

  • Design refinement and product testing

  • Preparing for market launch later in the project

This upgrade brings us much closer to delivering modern, elegant, and sustainable indoor farming systems to customers across Europe.

Tagging Hope: A Decade of Protecting Croatia’s Last Telestes souffia in the Bregana River

In 2025, our team completed the latest chapter of a decade-long effort to protect Telestes souffia, tagging 30 adult individuals in the Bregana River using BIOMARK PIT technology. Each fish was gently anesthetised, measured, weighed, and fitted with an 8 mm microchip to enable long-term tracking of survival and movement in its last Croatian habitat. The work builds on earlier studies, including the 2017 research that documented a small and declining population, underscoring the urgency of continued monitoring. With new data now collected, updated 2025 population estimates are on the way — and hope for the species continues to flow with the Bregana.
